Data Visualizations: Campus-Wide
Diversity Inventory Targeted Population Data
The Diversity Inventory (DI) reports and visualizes diversity efforts at UW-Madison’s campus, which are a demonstration of the campus' Diversity Plan in action. The visualizations below display target population information for initiatives in the following categories: Program, Event, Support Services, Assessment, and Research.PARTICIPANT COUNT BY DIVISION
Visualization depicting initiative count, type, and participant by division
The total number of participants for reported diversity initiatives aggregated by department/division is shown below. The department responsible for the initiative is represented by each circle. Larger circles correspond to a greater number of participants. Different colors represent different divisions, which is indicated in the legend. Hover over the circles to obtain participant count, division type, and fiscal year information. Filter (i) by division type (administrative vs. academic units) and (ii) by division in descending number of participants using the division filters. Filter by fiscal year using the year filters.
For example, in fiscal year 2016, there were a greater number of participants for reported diversity initiatives submitted by administrative units vs. academic units. The top three divisions in terms of participant count were: ‘General Services’ (23,576), ‘Wisconsin Union’ (17,525), and the ‘College of Engineering’ (2,350).

INITIATIVE AND PARTICIPANT COUNT BY DIVISION
Visualization depicting initiative and participant count by division
The graph below shows the participant count (i.e. number of people who participated in the initiative) (y-axis) relative to the total number of reported diversity initiatives (x-axis). Initiatives may only have one type and belong to only one division although it may have multiple sponsoring divisions. The department responsible for the initiative is represented by each circle. Larger circles correspond to a greater number of initiatives. Different colors represent different divisions, which is indicated in the legend. Click on the different colors in the legend to add or remove divisions from the view. Hover over the circles to obtain initiative count, participant count, initiative type, and fiscal year information. Filter by initiative type using the drop-down menu. Filter by fiscal year using the year filters.
For example, for initiatives where the initiative type was ‘Event’ in fiscal year 2016, the ‘SOCIAL EDUCATION OFFICE’ department under the ‘Wisconsin Unit’ division had 10 reported diversity initiatives where the total participant count was 16,453; the ‘VP DIVERSITY AND CLIMATE PROG’ department under the ‘General Services’ division had 21 initiatives where the total participant count was 10,335; the ‘ADMINISTRATION & MARKETING’ department under the ‘Wisconsin Union’ division had 1 initiative where the total participant count was 1,000; the ‘GRADUATE SCHOOL’ department under the ‘VC for Research and Graduate Education’ division had 1 initiative where the total participant count was 80; and the ‘DERMATOLOGY’ department under the ‘School of Medicine and Public Health’ division had 2 initiatives where the total participant count was 78.

INITIATIVE COUNT BY POPULATION SERVED
Visualization depicting initiative counts by population served
The total number of reported diversity initiatives aggregated by major population served is shown below. Population served corresponds to the intended audience of the initiative. More than one sub-population can be selected per initiative. The sub-populations served is represented by each circle. Larger circles correspond to a greater number of initiatives. Different colors represent different served populations, which is indicated in the legend. Hover over the circles to obtain a breakdown of the sub-populations served, initiative count, and fiscal year information. Filter by each population served in descending number of reported initiatives using the served population filters. Filter by fiscal year using the year filters.
